Women Build 2021

International Women Build Week 2021

March 8 - 15

Join us for this virtual global event, International Women Build Week. Together, Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity created International Women Build Week on a foundation of strength, resilience and perseverance. The event kicks off on International Women’s Day, March 8th, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

In past years groups of women have raised funds and gathered at a Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity Build site to help a future homeowner build a simple, decent, affordable home. While there is no substitute for swinging a hammer, we are excited for you to participate virtually and learn new skills from the safety of your home.

We hope to inspire D.I.Y. projects that you can accomplish at home. Watch a chalk painting demonstration and learn tips to successfully transform an old piece of furniture into a treasure. Spark your creativity as you see some amazing D.I.Y. Upcycle Projects that are possible using bargain priced items from the Habitat ReStore. Learn techniques to easily reupholster dining room chairs. Watch and listen to a wood refinishing expert as he walks us through a project and shares secrets to success.

Free Webinar!

On Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00 PM, you are invited to participate in an educational Zoom call with a local author, who wrote “Anne Thornton’s Insider’s Guide to Home Improvement”. During this 45-minute interactive session she will highlight many of the ideas in her book including some of the “23 things every woman should know how to do around the house”. Anne wrote this book with women in mind. This presentation is about empowerment, helping homeowners understand how things in their house work and how to deal with contractors. It’s also about maintenance – what you can and should do so you don’t have any emergencies. Anne has owned MSI Plumbing and Remodeling for the past 30 years and has seen just about everything. Now she is sharing her knowledge to help other homeowners, especially women, avoid costly mistakes. All participants will be mailed a copy of Anne’s book. Preregistration is required.

Birdhouse Contest!

For those who are ready for a challenge, we will be hosting a bird house making contest!
Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves a warm, safe place to call home – even the birds! All who are ready to accept this challenge will be asked to pay a $10 registration fee. Contest participants will be able to go to the Habitat ReStore and choose up to $10 of merchandise to make their bird house or use items they have at home. This is a chance to let your creativity soar. You will be asked to bring your creation back to the Habitat ReStore so that shoppers and a small panel of judges can choose the winners based on two key criteria: creativity and functionality. There will be prizes for the winners and fun for all participants.
