Dad Build 2020

Join us for Dad Build 2020!

In honor of Father’s Day, we are inviting dads to build alongside your son or daughter (age 16+) or your significant other for one of 3 special build days in June or July! Memories of his Father’s Day build day is a gift he’ll enjoy for many years to come.

This is a unique build, as he’ll be helping to renovate the historic Burd House, a building on the property of Pluckemin Presbyterian Church. It will be the new home of Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity, with a move-in planned for October 2020. The Burd House project is a wonderful opportunity for RV Habitat to deepen our roots in Pluckemin and help to restore a historic property that has significant meaning to the community. It’s a great opportunity for dad and his guest(s) to learn new skills, put current skills to use, and join us for a day of camaraderie and fun!

Spaces are limited and reservations will be taken on a first come first serve basis.

2 RV Habitat employees, including a Site Construction Supervisor
1 RV Habitat Partner Homeowner
10 Build Day participants

$100 per pair, $50 per person

All proceeds will be used to continue to build affordable homes and strong families in Somerset & Hunterdon Counties.

How are you implementing social distancing and Covid safety protocols?

An RV Habitat Site Supervisor will ensure that all workers remain 6 feet apart throughout the build day.  Additionally, we will have a portable sink for handwashing, hand sanitizer, face masks and gloves for all participants.  Participants who elect to work on jobs inside of the home will be given face shields to wear. The portable bathroom will be sanitized twice during the build day shift.

How long is the build?

The build will be approximately 4 hours long, with time for introductions at the start of the day and opportunities for water and snack breaks as needed.

What kind of work will I be doing?

The work will be varied, with most people performing jobs on the outside of the Burd House like installing siding and exterior painting.  Some participants may be offered to do interior jobs, but these are optional.

Can I join the build by myself?

Yes – though we request that individual participants identify as a father to recognize this special group. We will have additional build days in the future to recognize other groups and teams such as a Women’s Build, Youth Build, and open builds for any participant.

Can I register 2 or more people?

Yes! We encourage dads to come with anyone that he chooses, as long as they’re over 16 years old. Dad + spouse, dad + kids, dad + brother, dad + best friend – it’s his day and up to him!

Do I have to sign a waiver?

Yes, waivers will need to be signed by all participants at the start of the build day shift.

The minimum age of build participants is 16 years old by federal regulations. This is an active job site, so you will be asked to dress appropriately in old clothes and sturdy shoes and sign a waiver upon arrival.

Please refer to the waiver forms listed below:

Habitat Youth Rainbow Run Postponed

Rainbow Run 2020

Due to the spread of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Rainbow Run.

Originally scheduled for April 19th, we plan to reschedule the event to a date to be determined. Habitat staff will contact registered participants and sponsors this week about options to hold or refund processed payments.

Though we are in a time of extreme uncertainty, we are hopeful that our projects, volunteer opportunities, and operations will normalize in the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, we encourage our Hunterdon and Somerset neighbors to be mindful of how we can positively impact our communities. Right now, that means social distancing, practicing good hygiene, and supporting businesses and neighbors in whatever ways we can. We look forward to a near future when we can reschedule our events and celebrate the importance of community. We appreciate your support during this time!

On behalf of everyone at Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity, we send our best wishes to you, your families and our communities.

Building on Faith Service Day

Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent are partnering to create a Building on Faith Service Day on Saturday, September 14, 2019.  Local teens, families, and individuals of all ages will have the opportunity to come together for a one day mission experience in the local area.

Building on Faith Service Day will offer people of all ages and abilities an opportunity to serve. The volunteer sign-up link below allows you an easy way to indicate areas where you would be willing to help out. You will see that in addition to general building, repair, painting, landscaping and other types of project work, there are needs for individuals to supply and deliver work team lunches, help serve breakfast or refreshments to returning workers, work at the sign-in table, take photographs, provide child care and more.

We are excited about this event and hope you will consider partnering with us to create a significant impact on our local Christian community.
